About Veli Tourist Village
Veli Tourist Village is the government-run picnic park where Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea, a few kilometres north of Shanghumugham. A narrow sandbar separates the lagoon from the beach, and a floating bridge links the landscaped gardens to the seashore. The park is known for its outsized outdoor sculptures by Kanayi Kunhiraman, pedal and speed boats on the lake, a children's play area and a miniature train that circles the grounds. It is a staple for school picnics and family evenings, and the lawns are used for small cultural programmes, photo shoots and holiday events run by the tourism authorities.
