About Putharikandam Maidanam
Putharikandam Maidanam is the open public ground opposite the East Fort gate, beside the KSRTC city depot, and the place where the city holds its largest rallies and fairs. Political parties end state-wide marches with public meetings here, and for much of the year the ground is fenced off for trade fairs, consumer exhibitions, handloom and Onam markets, circus-style amusement fairs and government expos, usually with a small entry ticket. Because it sits next to the main city bus stand and a ten-minute walk from the railway station, it is the easiest large venue in the city to reach without a vehicle.
