About Central Stadium
Central Stadium is the open ground directly behind the Government Secretariat, owned by the Kerala State Sports Council and used as much for public life as for sport. Kerala's Independence Day parade is held here each 15 August, state governments have taken their oath of office on a stage built on the turf, and it is one of the main venues of the Tourism Department's Onam week, with free evening concerts. Its track and field are used for athletics and football, and in 2017 it hosted what was described as India's first athletics meet for transgender athletes. Exhibitions, government fairs and rallies fill many of the remaining dates.
