About Kuthiramalika Palace
Kuthiramalika, officially Puthen Malika, is the Travancore palace on the south-eastern side of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, built in the 1840s by the composer-king Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma. Its popular name comes from the 122 horses carved into the wooden brackets that hold up the southern roof. Twenty of its 80 rooms have been open as a palace museum since 1995, seen on a guided tour. Each year from 4 to 13 January the front courtyard hosts the Swathi Sangeethotsavam, ten evenings of classical concerts, mostly Carnatic, devoted to Swathi Thirunal's compositions, organised by the Rama Varma Maharaja of Travancore Trust. The concerts are not ticketed.
