About Kovalam Beach
Kovalam is the crescent of beaches about 13 km south-east of the city that put Kerala on the international tourist map. Rocky headlands divide it into Lighthouse Beach, the southernmost and busiest, named after the 36-metre Vizhinjam Lighthouse on Kurumkal hill; Hawah or Eve's Beach, which fishermen use; and the quieter Samudra Beach to the north. The promenade behind Lighthouse Beach is lined with restaurants, bars and shops, and in season it hosts live music, beach yoga, surf lessons and competitions, sand-art events and the district's largest New Year's Eve crowds. Resorts on the headlands hold ticketed parties, weddings and conferences.
