About Kerala Arts and Crafts Village
Kerala Arts and Crafts Village at Vellar, just before Kovalam, is a Kerala Tourism campus where artisans work in open studios and sell directly: bell metal, wood carving, handloom, coir, pottery, mural painting and jewellery among them. The redeveloped village, managed by the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society, opened in January 2021 with galleries, an amphitheatre, landscaped walks and food outlets. It has become a festival venue as well. The International Indie Music Festival, first held here in November 2022, brought Indian and overseas bands to its stage, and the village runs craft bazaars, dance and theatre evenings, residencies and holiday workshops for children.
